Yuggera, Ugarapul and Jagera peoples gather on this land here at the Flinders-Goolman Conservation Estate in Ipswich.
It is a special place that holds alot of history.
There was an eerie sadness that I felt here so I went digging...
Purga mission was established in 1914 and had many "half-caste" aboriginals residing here with the aim to remove them from their communities so that they could Christianise them and disconnect them from any semblance of Aboriginal spirituality or culture and eventually to assimilate them into white culture.
Their basic human rights were taken away and they were regarded as lower grade humans closer to animals.
The state determined where they could live or be employed and who they could marry, children could and were taken away to 'reserves' or sent to work, education was limited, all were paid less than non-aboriginals plus their pay was deducted by the state.
The colony was closed in 1948.
Get this though...after the closure of the mission the job of caretaker was handed over to a Mr HODGSON of Purga on 6th December 1948.
My partner was like you were called here surely, because no one goes to this place for a picnic lunch.
Now, I have no idea if that is a relative of mine but it definitely, sent shivers down my back.
The synchronicities that occur on my travels reaffirms the connection I have with sacred places and this new offer that I am crafting for intuitives to align with their soul place is definitely calling.
